about me

Tyrone J. Caver LCSW

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, I’ve personally experienced and witnessed those in my community struggle with issues such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. It was through these experiences that I gained the passion to better understand the ways in which individuals, couples, and families can effectively cope with and heal from difficult circumstances. As a result, I have worked as a mental health professional in New York for the past 10 years providing care in a variety of health and mental health settings.

As a Black cis-male therapist, I hold the belief that our various intersectional identities strongly influence how we show up in the world and how we experience the people around us. This approach paired with my training allows me to stay attuned to how issues of social justice, oppression, power and privilege influence the problems that adults, families, and couples face.

I am a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I completed my Masters in Social Work at Hunter College. I received post-graduate training in EDMR therapy and also family and couples therapy at the Ackerman Institute for the Family. I utilize my training in couples & family therapy and EMDR to guide people to new insights about their relationships and themselves.

INDIVIDUAL & COUPLES THERAPY

I work with adults individually or as couples to offer a safe-enough, non-judgmental space to address a myriad of issues. These concerns often include issues of depression, anxiety, trauma, shame/guilt, life transitions, gender/racial/sexual identity development, emotional/physical intimacy, infidelity, dating and relationship difficulties, pre-marital counseling, and navigating consensual non-monogamy. Whatever your concern, we will work collaboratively to address unhelpful patterns of thoughts, feelings, or behaviors in a way that fosters growth, deeper understanding, and change.

FAMILY THERAPY WITH ADULTs

I work specifically with adult families to repair and re-imagine their relationships by examining past and present relational difficulties. Families struggling with sibling conflict, grief and loss, multi-generational trauma, aging parents or other life-cycle transitions are given the space to feel empowered to create new, deeply healing and meaningful experiences with one another. We will work together to ensure that each family member feels heard, can better communicate their familial needs, and can more proactively combat unhealthy relational patterns of behavior.

EMDR therapy

I offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy to adults seeking to heal from symptoms resulting from disturbing life experiences. This includes anxiety, depression, limiting beliefs, trauma, ineffective coping mechanisms, and emotional distress. EMDR therapy can have an extremely profound impact on the ways people respond to difficult life circumstances or traumatic events, and can help people to build confidence, increase self-worth, and gain a deeper sense of self. For those seeking EMDR treatment, we will work together to ensure that EMDR is the right fit for your current needs.
